1. What are your rates for service calls?

For a residential service call we offer flat rate pricing.  We have a diagnostic fee and repairs are additional.  Call us for exact pricing.  This flat rate policy is designed so that after we have completed our diagnosis we can offer a list of solutions with their pricing, so that you, the homeowner, will have the opportunity to approve or decline repairs based on price.

For our commercial customers our pricing is based on time and materials.

4.  The air blowing out of my vents is not as cold as it used to be and there is also ice on lines going to my outdoor unit. What's going on?

This is an indication that your system is probably low on refrigerant which indicates a leak that needs to be searched and repaired if possible.

5.  If I do have a leak, can I just keep adding refrigerant?

Yes, you can. However, it could in the long run become very expensive with the cost of freon.  Also, it doesn't really fix the problem and refrigerant leaks usually get worse as time goes on.

6.  My thermostat is blank and no air is blowing from my vents. What could it be?

Try replacing the batteries in the thermostat if it has them.  If that doesn't work, give us a call!

7.  What is the difference between R-22 and R-410A refrigerant?

As of December 31, 2009, R-22 will no longer be manufactured.  It is being replaced with R-410A, a much more eco-friendly refrigerant.  The down side to this is that the 2 refrigerants do not mix and cannot be used in the same system.

8.  Can I upgrade my outdoor unit to meet new requirements (Puron/R-410A) without having to change out my indoor coil?

Unfortunately, no. The two pieces of equipment use different refrigerant and the two refrigerants do not mix and will cause your new compressor to fail.

9.  I just turned my heat on for the first time and Iíve noticed a faint burning smell.  Should I be concerned?

A burning smell is not unusual when turning on your heating system for the first time after sitting idle during the summer months.  If the smell persists, its time to call.

10.  How much money will a 90% furnace save me over my current furnace?

Typically, most older furnaces from have an efficiency rating of 65% or less so your energy savings could be 25% or more depending on your usage and with the installation of high efficiency equipment.

11.  What is the advantage of programmable thermostats?

Programmable thermostats allow you to control the settings for your thermostat based on your lifestyle.  It can be set to only condition the space when occupied thus saving money or perhaps you like the space cooler for particular times of day or night.  You have complete control.

12.  Will you remove my old equipment and dispose of it?

Yes, we remove all old equipment and recover any refrigerant according to EPA guidelines.

13.  Why is it important to have the coils on my HVAC units cleaned regularly?

Even with a good filter, program coils in any HVAC unit will require annual cleaning. Units with dirty coils do not transfer heat effectively which results in the machines working harder and longer to do the required amount of heating or cooling.  Coil cleaning will save money in both energy and repairs.

14.  I've heard that you should have your heating and air conditioning system serviced on a regular basis.  Should I and why?

Absolutely.  An air conditioning and heating system like any other machinery has moving parts that need to be cleaned and serviced regularly in order to make them last longer.  It is much like a car, regular service extends the life of the equipment.
